20 Years of edevis
We Are Celebrating Company Anniversary
edevis is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Since its founding in 2004, the company has become an established player in the area of “Enhanced Defect Visualization” — with automated testing systems and testing equipment for imaging, non-destructive material testing using active thermography processes.

edevis — The Company's Milestones
The motorsport department at the Porsche Development Center in Weissach approached the university in 2002 and was looking for an innovative method for the non-destructive characterization of their CFRP monocoques (Carrera GT passenger cells). As part of a technology transfer initiative by the University of Stuttgart, Thomas Zweschper and Alexander Dillenz took on this challenge and founded edevis GmbH. edevis still has a close partnership with Porsche today.
The successful collaboration with Porsche was followed by projects with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Eurocopter (now Airbus Helicopters). In addition, edevis built the first fully automated system for series testing of composite crankcases based on ultrasonic and impulse-driven thermography for BMW's light metal foundry in Landshut. Numerous other automation projects followed in the automotive industry.
The Cooperation with ThyssenKrupp Automation Engineering is also a significant milestone in the company's history. Together, the two companies developed an innovative system for the fully automated inspection of laser welds from cell connectors on traction batteries. This new application of active thermography has considerable future potential, particularly when it comes to technology transformation towards electric mobility.
edevis — The Portfolio Today
The range of services offered by edevis GmbH today covers the entire spectrum from flexible laboratory systems and turnkey fully automated testing systems to customer-specific software solutions and certified service tests in the area of active thermography.
The method is imaging and contactless, enables short cycle times and a robust automated evaluation of test results. In contrast to conventional X-ray testing, active thermography does not require ionizing radiation. Even surfaces that are only accessible from one side can be easily tested. In particular, the process shows its strengths in laser weld testing, crack testing and the non-destructive characterization of coatings.
edevis carries out services such as feasibility studies, testing individual components or series inspection of components both in its own test laboratories and on site at the customer's premises. This involves the use of high-end infrared cameras and excitation sources that are optimally tailored to the respective application. As a system integrator, edevis implements automated testing systems in close cooperation with plant manufacturers. A team of software developers enables the agile and efficient implementation of customer requirements as well as the development of specific machine learning algorithms and image processing methods.
Extensive Commitment to Non-Destructive Testing
edevis GmbH is involved in the “German Society for Non-Destructive Testing” (DGZfP) and in the committees of the “German Institute for Standardization” (DIN). For DGZfP, edevis was significantly involved in the creation of training content and today still provides instructors for their certification courses.
Optimally positioned for the future
Over the past 20 years, edevis has shaped and promoted the success story of non-destructive testing with active thermography together with customers and partners. With over 500 successful projects and more than 20 employees, edevis is now an established specialist in the field of non-destructive material and component testing.
It is important for the company to always be at the forefront of innovation and to develop new, technologically advanced solutions with a competent team of physicists, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and software developers. “We are proud to be able to offer our customers highly professional solutions and to continuously expand our market position,” explains Alexander Dillenz, managing director of edevis GmbH.
edevis now generates a large part of its turnover in the automotive and aerospace industries. In the future, the solutions will also be used in medical technology, packaging and food industries. At the same time, established solutions such as laser weld and crack testing should scale in customers' existing production environments.
“Our focus and actions are always focused on the future. For 20 years, edevis has stood for entrepreneurial spirit, innovative strength, quality and customer orientation. From the outset, we had the vision of optimizing quality assurance with technologically leading solutions and offering professional products and services for non-destructive testing. We will continue to remain true to this goal,” adds Thomas Zweschper, managing director of edevis GmbH.
