LThead
Precise non-destructive testing of weld seams using laser thermography
The LThead is edevis' most powerful system for non-destructive quality control of weld seams – optimized for cell connectors in batteries and other safety-critical applications. The system enables contactless, quantitative inspection in inline processes – using proven laser thermography technology.

Applications
- Inspection of cell connectors in EV batteries
- Weld seam testing in serial productionInline quality assurance in automated production lines
- Detection of bonding defects, cracks, and voids
- Inspection of joints made of aluminum, copper, and steel
- Testing of metallic structures with complex geometries
- Standards-compliant documentation for safety-critical components

How does inspection with LThead work?
Typical workflow of an LThead inspection
1. Laser excitation
2. Heat flow in the component
3. Detection using an infrared camera
4. Software-assisted analysis

FAQ
Our frequently asked questions — answered quickly and easily.
Can fine bonding errors or microscopic defects also be detected?
Yes – thanks to high-precision laser excitation combined with phase image analysis, even subtle subsurface defects can be made visible, regardless of surface condition or reflection.
find out moreFor which weld joints is the LThead suitable?
The LThead is specially optimised for testing electrical and structural welded joints – in particular cell connectors in EV batteries as well as seams on aluminium, copper or steel components. Complex geometries can also be reliably inspected.
find out moreHow is the documentation of the test results carried out?
The evaluation is carried out automatically via the edevis software DisplayIMG, which enables an OK/NOK classification, visualisation and standard-compliant documentation of the test results – for example for safety-critical components or series approvals.
find out moreHow quickly is a measurement carried out with the LThead?
The measurement is usually carried out in less than a second – ideal for integration into fast production lines. The evaluation and OK/NOK classification are carried out automatically and inline.
find out moreIs the LThead suitable for use in automated lines?
Yes, the LThead is fully PLC- and robot-integrable. Thanks to industrial interfaces such as PROFINET, OPC UA and TCP/IP the system can be seamlessly integrated into existing automation solutions.
